21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa
If you are in Japan in summer, one place you must visit is Furano, a small town at the
heart of Hokkaido. In that season, many kinds of flowers are in bloom in Furano, but
the most notable is lavender. And of the various lavender farms in Furano, Farm Tomita
is the one to visit.
As soon as you arrive at Farm Tomita, you smell the lavender and see gorgeous views of the flowers spread over a hillside. Irodori Field features seven differently colored patches of flowers, which create a lovely rainbow pattern. Visitors should go up to the farm's observation deck for views of the stunning landscape of multicolored rows of flowers contrasting with the clear blue sky.
As well as the various scenic spots, visitors can enjoy sampling unusual lavender-based products. They should be sure to try the wonderful lavender-flavored ice cream and local sweet melons. The best season to visit the farm is early July to early August, when most lavender is in bloom, and you should allow yourself plenty of time for relaxing and wandering around.
