My most unforgettable aquatic experience is swimming with a whale shark in Okinawa in southwest Japan. Even if you don't have a diving license or are a first-time diver, you can enjoy diving in Okinawa.

I joined a half-day discovery snorkeling tour. The weather was perfect, with a blue sky all day. The tour guide gave us a brief lecture, and we were provided with a full set of equipment. When we were ready, we set out on a boat, and it took 10 minutes to get about three kilometers offshore. Whale sharks off Okinawa are maintained in a giant ocean ranch. The diving tour guide fed the whale sharks with krill. One whale shark came up close to me — just two or three meters away — and I felt I could almost touch it! I was so excited. That was for me a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience. Other possibilities for viewing the whale sharks include excursions with a glass-bottom boat as well as scuba diving tours.

Whatever the option, this is something that no one can afford to miss.
