The Naruto Whirlpools

The mesmerizing Naruto whirlpools are natural phenomena created by the changing tides in the Naruto Strait which flows between the islands of Naruto and Awaji. The whirlpools occur roughly every six hours and can reach up to 20 meters in diameter. The best way to enjoy these remarkable whirlpools is via a boat tour, which gives visitors the chance to get up close for spectacular views without fear of danger. Tours, which are operated by two companies, last between 20-30 minutes and depart twice per hour from piers on nearby Shikoku Island and from Awaji Island on the opposite side of the strait.
